Meet Dr. Rodolfo Molina, M.D.
Founder & Medical Director, Molina Psychiatric Associates
Dr. Rodolfo Molina is a board-certified psychiatrist with over three decades of experience, deeply committed to delivering medical, compassionate, and bilingual psychiatric care to patients across North Texas. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Dr. Molina ensures that language is never a barrier to receiving personalized, high-quality mental health care. Born and raised in Laredo, Texas, Dr. Molina comes from a family of healthcare professionals. His mother, a nursing instructor, and his uncle, a pharmacist, helped shape his early fascination with medicine. This passion ultimately led him to study psychiatry at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where he also completed his residency.
A Medical-First Approach to Psychiatry
Dr. Molina’s practice is firmly grounded in the medical model of mental health. He believes that psychiatric conditions like depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder are biological illnesses that deserve the same rigorous, science-based approach as any other medical condition. At Molina Psychiatric Associates, patients are not just numbers on a chart—they’re individuals with unique stories and biological histories that must be understood in-depth to determine the right diagnosis and path to healing.
With an emphasis on evidence-based treatment and a collaborative philosophy, Dr. Molina works closely with the nurse practitioners while focusing on the biological roots of mental illness. He personally engages with each patient, building upon the preliminary intake information gathered by nurses to ask insightful, specific questions that lead to precise diagnoses. “You can’t treat if you can’t diagnose,” he insists.
Values That Shape Every Patient Interaction
Dr. Molina is guided by values of professionalism, honesty, timeliness, and above all, compassion. His care model emphasizes prompt service and patients first—a principle that sets Molina Psychiatric Associates apart from many other practices. He provides honest, realistic expectations about treatments, and is transparent with patients about what medications can and cannot do. For instance, he explains that while ADHD medications may provide a certain percentage of improvement, long-term success comes from following a full treatment program that for some may include psychotherapy, which is something he can help provide referrals to.
Dr. Molina also makes it a priority to educate his patients. By helping them understand their diagnosis, family history, and the science behind medications, he empowers patients to take charge of their mental health journey.
Trusted Relationships and Compassionate Communication
For Dr. Molina, building trust is at the heart of effective psychiatric care—especially with patients who may feel uncertain or guarded. He listens carefully, offers clear and plainspoken explanations of the healing process, and adapts his approach depending on each patient’s level of comfort and vulnerability. His ability to truly hear people’s stories, ask the right follow-up questions, and gradually break down walls has helped countless patients move toward wellness.
The Power of Bilingual, Culturally Attuned Care
Fluent in both English and Spanish, Dr. Molina understands the crucial role language plays in providing personalized, respectful care. For patients who prefer to speak in Spanish—especially in households where one partner may be translating for another—Dr. Molina ensures that nothing gets lost in translation. His commitment to bilingual care also extends to his practice’s growth, as he actively seeks to bring on Spanish-speaking nurse practitioners to better serve the community.
A Practice Built on Passion
Frustrated by the impersonal nature of large medical groups and their impact on patient care and personal life, Dr. Molina founded Molina Psychiatric Associates to deliver a more hands-on, thoughtful model of care. His practice reflects his vision: a compassionate, medically rigorous environment where people can find clarity, healing, and hope.
Advice for the Hesitant
To anyone considering psychiatric care for the first time, Dr. Molina offers heartfelt advice: “Just come in and listen. Try it. Give it 30 days. Sample the experience and medicine to see how it feels. It might just be the thing that turns your life around.” With treatment plans tailored to the individual and medications that are often well-tolerated, he encourages people to step out of their comfort zones, explore the possibilities, and start their healing journey.
